Your questions, answered...
1. How does it work?
Plants defend themselves. When elephants browse, trees release signalling compounds that alert nearby vegetation and trigger tannin production, which makes them less palatable and moves animals on. Sylvatica Bioprotect™ is a plant-derived formulation that mimics this natural defence, so treated trees simply stop being appealing.
2. How do you apply it?
It comes as a concentrated powder. Mix 1 kg with 11 litres of water and spray it onto the bark of the trunk and main branches, not the leaves. A 10 kg bucket makes 110 litres, enough for around 30 trees depending on tree size and how heavily you spray. It dries to a natural red-brown colour. Minimal (optional) PPE: gloves, eye protection, dust mask (when handling the powder) and protective clothing (Sylvatica stains clothes).
3. How long does it last?
Up to six months per application, depending on conditions. It stays effective through repeated heavy rain, including more than 25 mm in a single event. In our field trials, no treated tree needed re-treatment during the monitoring period.
4. Can I use it on fences and infrastructure?
Sylvatica Bioprotect™ is made to protect wild trees, and that's what we test and recommend it for. Some clients have reported good results on fences and infrastructure, but that's an unintended bonus rather than its purpose.
5. What is it made of?
The formulation is patented and we don't disclose it. What we can tell you is that it's made entirely of biodegradable, natural ingredients, with no chemicals, and it's safe for people, wildlife and the environment.
6. Are the natural ingredients sustainably harvested?
Yes. We use responsible sourcing practices that protect natural resources and support long-term environmental conservation.
More than tree protection
Our trials turned up benefits we didn't design for: vulture nesting sites preserved, less reliance on mesh wiring around treated trees, reduced termite damage, and protection against wood-borer infestation.
